Laudeck castle

Is without doubt the most remarkable building. It stands high on a sheer rock of crystalline schist. On it‘s northern and western side the hill drops down moderatelay to the pond (Schloßteich) and the village of Ladis. The sturdy keep or main tower is the centre of the fortress. This heavy tower with living quarters inside is followed by a chapel and the hall in the north-east. A circular rampart encloses the stronghold to the north. A northern tower (with living quarters) is connected to northem rampart. From there the rampart spans westwards to the entrance tower and continues further to the sheer drop of the rock in the south. Thus a barbican is formed, which is equipped with a small dungeon north of the main tower. The fortress is unassailable in the southeast, whereas ramparts and towers secure it in the north.
