The bitter cold will continue unabated on Wednesday. There will also be bright sunshine in a largely cloudless sky. The general weather situation will change significantly on Thursday. In the morning, we will still be dealing with the weak remnants of a cold front that will pass through during the night. After a brief lull in the weather in the morning, a warm front will move in during the afternoon. This will bring some precipitation and stronger westerly winds. The snow line will slowly rise to 1600 meters above sea level by Friday morning. Excessive precipitation is not expected outside of the western barrier areas. Friday will bring a mix of sun and clouds. At the same time, a southerly foehn will pick up temporarily and there may be a few showers. Overall, however, not all details have been decided yet, and this also applies to the upcoming weekend. The only thing that is certain is that another surge of polar cold air will arrive on Saturday and temperatures will drop again, especially in the mountains. With very strong winds turning to the northwest, heavy cloud cover will prevail and there may be heavy snowfall from Saturday to Sunday, especially in the northwestern mountain areas.
