The high-pressure system, which is also bringing fine weather midweek, will temporarily retreat slightly westwards on Thursday. This will bring us back onto the eastern flank of the high, where we will experience a significantly strengthening north-westerly flow. As the wind blows down into some of the valleys, a few patches of cloud – some of them quite extensive – will pass through, dimming the sunshine or even blocking the sun as the day progresses. However, the high-pressure system will return as early as Friday, bringing a renewed – and this time more lasting – improvement in the weather. By Friday, the wind will have died down considerably, and at most just a few thin, high cirrus clouds will accompany the sunshine. Over the weekend, bright sunshine against a cloudless sky will dominate the weather. This will be accompanied by late-summer warmth, with the frost line at around 4,000 metres. The start of the new week will bring us a few harmless clouds again for a short while. However, it will remain consistently dry and still very warm for the time of year.
