Weather report

With an Atlantic high-pressure system to the west and a low-pressure system over Northern Europe at the start of the week, the Alps will be situated within a north-westerly flow, which will shift to a northerly direction by Tuesday and then to a north-easterly direction on Wednesday. Frontal systems embedded within this flow will bring conditions conducive to significant precipitation, particularly from Monday into Tuesday and continuing into Tuesday itself. The main focus of the precipitation will be in the regions towards the northern edge of the Alps; significantly less precipitation is expected towards the main Alpine ridge in a southerly direction. Overall, the northern wind-sheltered slopes of the mountains will again receive the most fresh snow, and the snow line will also settle back down into the lower valley areas. Winter will therefore make its presence felt once again with full force during the first half of the week. On Wednesday itself, there will be no more than a light flurry of snow. The weather will settle down, but there will be no improvement yet. The remaining cloud cover, which is partly high fog, will continue to block out the sun for the time being. However, Thursday and Friday already promise more sunshine, though overall the weather will remain somewhat changeable for the time being and temperatures will only recover slowly.
